San Diego Welcomes Back The Mercury Insurance Tour After Two-Years
This weekend, many of the best women in tennis will be stopping in San Diego for the Mercury Insurance Open, a premier women's tennis event for the top players on the 2010 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. The La Costa Canyon Resort and Spa in Carlsbad will play host to the tournament from July 31st-August 8th. Here's your chance to see some of the most skilled tennis players from around the world, as the Open returns to San Diego again after a two-year absence.
The week long Mercury Insurance Open is one of ten different events on the Olympus U.S. Open Series this summer. Both the Tennis Channel and ESPN 2 will air coverage, but tickets and ticket packages can be purchased to see the action in person here. Tennis talents No. 3 Jelena Jankovic, No. 7 Samantha Stosur, No. 9 Agniezka Radwanska, No. 10 Flavia Panetta, Svetlana Kuznestsova, Victoria Azarenka and many others will be featured at the Carlsbad tournament.
In order to help you enjoy the week of intense tennis matches and fierce competition, the Mercury Insurance Open has many special events lined up for those in attendance. Monday, August 2nd is Kids Day, with free admission for those under 16 and plenty of fun activities. Groups of 10 or more are offered discounted rates for seats on Tuesday, August 3rd. And A Unique Wine Experience with Mollydooker Wines on Friday, August 6th offers guests the opportunity to blend their own wines with award winning winemakers and taste the fabulous 2009 new release high end wines with a buffet dinner. Limited seating is available, so please call the Box Office at (760) 930-7032 to make reservations.
This year, a charity event to benefit Tri-City Medical Center’s Women’s Diagnostic Center, the presenting sponsor of The Mercury Insurance Open, will take place on Thursday, August 5th, from 5 — 7 PM at the La Costa Resort and Spa. There will be a chance to bid on some amazing items, meet former and current players, eat, drink, get a ticket for the night session's exciting matches and most importantly help make a difference in the lives of the women of San Diego. Breast cancer has affected us all in some way, and all money raised will go directly to help Tri-City purchase a very sophisticated piece of equipment for minimally invasive, highly accurate breast biopsies. Nothing gets much better than a fun time for a great cause!
