Poway was incorporated in 1980 in an effort to preserve its rural flavor. While independent from San Diego it’s connected to areas, such as Rancho Bernardo of San Diego North County via the Poway Unified School District. Poway is located about 25 miles northeast of Downtown San Diego and is home to many thriving businesses, Pomerado Hospital (operated by Palomar Pomerado Health System), 48,000wonderful people (according to the census of 2000) and a landscape of rolling boulder hills. Poway is located east of Rancho Bernardo, also known as “City in the Country”
